Mother to Abby Glann, Brenda Jane Brown, 61, passed away on September 30, 2024, at Mercy Hospital.
Brenda was born on April 13, 1963, to Penny (Hannon) Cain and Emory Van Sickle in Des Moines, IA.
Brenda loved art in many forms. She enjoyed painting, quilting, and playing piano.
She also loved experiencing that art with her children and “precious” grandchildren, always attending concerts, contests, and recitals. She was also an avid gardener and beekeeper. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was around a campfire, snuggled on the couch with a book, or attending her grandsons’ sporting events. She was a devoted Christian and member of Heartland Church in Ankeny. She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to visit Brazil, Montana, and Mexico over recent years. Brenda worked in IT all her life, eventually retiring early from CDS as Vice-President of her area. She worked afterward with the Sheepgate organization.
Brenda is survived by her children, Abby Glann (Andrew), Allen Brown (Malary), Andrea Newberry (Matthew), and Autumn Eddy (Mark); twelve beautiful grandchildren; her mother, Penny Cain; siblings Michael Cain, Michael Van Sickle, Robert Cain, Brandy Van Sickle, and Jack Van Sickle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Brown; her father, Emory Van Sickle; her dad, Robert Cain; and step-sister, Sue Cain.
Family will be greeting friends on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 9 am to 11 am at Heartland Church (1212 NW 36th, Ankeny, Iowa) with the funeral service to begin at 11 am, following the visitation at the church. Brenda will be laid to rest at 1:45 pm at Hartford Cemetery (300 South Vine Street, Hartford, Iowa).
