James “Jim” Wadle, 92, of Knoxville, passed away September 8, 2026. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 1:00 til 4:00 p.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville.
James Wadle was born August 8, 1934, in Bauer, Iowa, to Guy and Catherine (Metz) Wadle. He grew up alongside his brothers, Bernard, Raymond, and Frank . Jim attended Bauer Catholic School.
Jim entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. His military service remained an important part of his life, and he later became a member of the Melcher-Dallas American Legion.
On January 31, 1959, Jim married Frances Luscri and were blessed with three children: Kelly, Marty, and Mary Ann. Through the years, Jim and Frances shared the everyday moments that ultimately make up a lifetime together.
Jim spent his working years at the Knoxville VA Hospital, where he served as a Special Technician nursing assistant. Working with and caring for veterans was a fitting career for a man who had served his country himself. After many years at the VA, Jim retired in 1989.
Retirement gave Jim more time for the things he enjoyed—and there were plenty of them. He loved a good card game, and Monday night was men’s night. Whether the game was poker, pitch, cribbage, or bridge, Jim was ready to play. It was as much about the people around the table, the conversation, and the camaraderie as it was about the cards.
Jim also enjoyed golfing at Pine Knolls Country Club and spent many hours bowling through the years. Some especially good memories were made fishing with his friend, Dr. Robert Conway on trips to Canada. Those trips offered everything Jim appreciated: good fishing, good company, and time spent away enjoying the outdoors.
Faith and community were also important parts of Jim’s life. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Knoxville and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. His connection to his hometown roots remained strong throughout his life.
Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances; his children, Kelly Wadle McDonald, Marty Wadle, and Mary Ann Maxwell; and his grandchildren, Aaron McDonald and Talon Maxwell, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Catherine Wadle; his brothers, Bernard, Frank, and Raymond; and his son-in-law, Neil Maxwell.
